Review on Financial Accounting by Libby, Libby, and Short, November 24, 2012
This review is from: Financial Accounting. Robert Libby, Patricia A. Libby, Daniel G. Short (Paperback)
This is a terriffic textbook. It is well-organized and for those of us who are interested in business aspects, the writers provide clear, current examples to keep our interest alive and meaningful. What's more, throughout the book, you have the distinct understanding that ethics is common practice. There are no strategic ways as far as preparing reports with facts. The writers delve into conceptual reasoning and my teacher was right in line with it, emphasising not to give up, to keep practicing the principles and if it doesn't "click" right away, it will with practice. This is an excellent study book with terminology and notes. No one should have a problem learning this subject matter, as long as they put the time in to do it.

Always Been a Fan of the Horngren Series, September 26, 2009
This review is from: Financial Accounting (7th Edition) (Hardcover)
What I like about the Horngren Series is the practicality of it. This series still manages to usually hold the number of pages down to about 100 less than its quite excellent major competitors (Weygandt-Kieso-Kimmel, Wild-Larson-Chiappetta, and Stickey-Weil-Schipper-Francis). It's still a large-dimension hardcover and this Horngren book has 840 pages. That's plenty of space for one course, and Horngren provides more than enough easy-access online materials as well.
Horngren is mainly used by university students although Weygandt-Kieso-Kimmel have gained market share. But Horngren also recognizes that most financial accountants do not need an accounting degree. They need to understand accounting and know how to do their specific jobs. In fact, I've long noticed the small ratio of accountants working in accounting departments that actually have accounting degrees. For them, the Horngren Series is well-designed. But it still serves the needs of college students.
Horngren places emphasis on the accounting cycle. In doing so, this textbook covers the actual job duties within an accounting department quite efficiently. That's why I also purchase Horngren Series books. I purchase them for staff as well as additional resource material to help me prepare when I teach accounting courses at the university level. Because if its special niche and top-notch editing, I would expect this series to last through many more editions.

I enjoyed this book, it illustrated examples and gave you problems to work through using the information and knowledge you gained when reading the chapters. I have had to constantly refer back to this textbook to verify various accounting formulas for other classes. This book exceeded my expectations.

I ordered this particular item because it was well priced and purported to come "with Access", which means that it was supposed to come with the access codes for the Aplia homework site. When it arrived without the codes, I called the seller. I was told that it should have come with the access codes. They would give me a refund, but they do not have any more access packets. Since my class was due to start before I could get another book ordered, I kept it, but I ended up haveing to go to the college bookstore and getting the access codes for another .00!!
