I just got a kindle and have a decent background in stock trading, technical and fundamental analysis, et. So I was hoping I could gain some knowledge from this book, however, I did not. I ended up skimming most of it because the information was pretty beginner but I suppose its a good read if you are new to investing.

Cons - not much depth to information
Pros - its free and could be a good entry level book

This book don't contain a single strategy to find stocks, so al list the title is just here to attract people. Don't waste your time.
I have to say that I know quite a bit about trading but even for a beginner there nothing really useful.

This book was a quick and easy read. I wasn't reading it to find any stock picks, for I don't believe in taking financial advice as is from anyone, yet the book made me feel a little more comfortable with understand different markets and their roles in the economic environment. It only took me two days to read through it and wouldn't recommend it to any advanced traders, for it is probably a waste of your time, but is quite informative for a newbie to the stock market, like myself.

Accounting twenty-fourth edition is a good tool to learn accounting with. If you are new to amazon by all means get the visa credit card. It is well worth the effort and saves you a bundle for student needs.

Intermediate Accounting For Dummies is a great substitute for Intermediate Accounting college textbook (e.g. by Kieso, Weygandt, Warfield). The author of Intermediate Accounting For Dummies summarizes the important topics of intermediate accounting and present the information in a more interesting way than the official college textbook. To make it even more easier to read/follow, this book also try to highlight which topics are really critical to understand and which paragraph/section are for those who are really interested to learn much more details about a particular subject. I know it's hard to make this subject interesting to read (or any school textbook for that matter :) ) but this book is probably very close to achieving it.

Please don't mistaken this Intermediate Accounting For Dummies book as a basic accounting book, or if you know some very basic accounting, this would be a good progression to learn (i.e. basic, intermediate, advance). While this books covered basic accounting topics and a refresher on financial accounting 101 (e.g. income statement, balance sheet, cash flows), this book is intended for more "advanced" audience who have taken financial accounting or the Intermediate accounting in college and needs a refresher (or need something lighter to replace the Intermediate accounting textbook). If you have heard or familiar with the following terms and need to use/implement them then you will like this book: goodwill, FIFO/LIFO, NOL carryforwards, deferred tax asset, acid test ratio, asset to turnover ratio, etc.

Having said all that, if you are running your own business, a treasurer who needs to prepare financial statements, or just an individual who is very interested in accounting topics, I would say that you would be able to benefit from this book (and use it like a reference/handbook).

This book covers many important topics such as:
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Financial ratio analysis
- Equity accounting
- Investment strategies
- Financial statement preparation

Aimed at college Accounting Students; if you need basic business accounting, the author's other book is better, June 30, 2012

This review is from: Intermediate Accounting For Dummies (Paperback)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)

Though I usually review music and entertainment products on Amazon, in my "day job" I'm a CPA with over 40 years of experience. As such this book is one that I feel very qualified to review. (Note that the book was sent to me by Amazon under their Vine Reviewers program.)

I gave a good review to the author's previous "for Dummies" book "Financial Accounting for Dummies", which is directed to anyone interested in learning the "basics" of accounting, whether they are a business person or a student. This particular volume is obviously aimed at the college student who is taking an Intermediate Accounting course (after going through Accounting 101 - Introduction to Accounting) and is looking for something to demystify their technical textbook. The author states this in their Introduction and periodically throughout this 358 page book (which has quite a bit of white space and illustrations - as well a a funny cartoon to lead off each chapter.) Some may think of this as a sort of "Cliffs Notes", to let them skip the assigned text. I'm not sure that'll work.

The author suggests that you do not read the book from front to back, but I disagree. Heck the book is not that big and it will make more sense. She offers "tips" and "reminders" as well as what she called "technical stuff" (which she said you "don't need to read". The chapters mirror standard Intermediate Accounting texts in grouping things like "Financial Statement Presentation", "Depreciation", "Debt and Interest" and "Footnotes". And she adds a chapter - though short - on "correcting your mistakes" through "prior year adjustments".

If you are NOT a college student taking Intermediate Accounting, I think there are better books for you. If you are a business person who wants to know enough to talk intelligently to your CPA, I'd suggest the previously noted "Financial Accounting for Dummies" title.

But if you are a student taking IA then this just might help give you that extra push you need. The author's writing style (she is a professor) is very user friendly. Bring along a highlighter though as I'm sure you'll use it as you read through.

I hope this review was both informative and helpful.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)

It sort of goes without saying that this book isn't for the beginner. It says it right there: "Intermediate Accounting." I am preparing for an accounting class in the fall, having failed one last year. So, I'm getting as much help as I can at the moment. As a member of the Amazon Vine program, I jumped at the opportunity to get this book even though it's more advanced than where I'm at right now. That much said, it IS helpful, even for me, a beginner who failed accounting the first time. So, I would recommend this book, even for the beginner. As with most of these "Dummies" books, this isn't really intended as cover-to-cover reading. It's more sort of pick and choose. Little nuggets of helpful information here and there.
