Students are often overwhelmed by the amount of information presented in the introductory financial accounting course. By focusing on fundamental concepts in a logical sequence, students are able to fully comprehend the material rather than memorize

I don't know where all the high praise reviews come from...., October 5, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Mostly, my review will be covering the "kindle" format of the book.

Let me start with the simple words, "I hate it." At first it seemed so convenient to be able to just carry anywhere without a second thought. If I had a second, I could just pull my phone or kindle out and study! How could I go wrong with such a purchase?! Well, I obviously did not think of how small the many charts and balance sheets would be. Nor did I realize that the pages would be completely inconsistent. One day the information I found the day before on page 1454 will be on page 1467. I don't know why the information is read differently...it just is.

The next problem with the kindle format is that despite the "go to" function, it is impossible to compare different numbers. Especially when you are comparing the A and B problem sets.

As for the book itself? I am not the best student when it comes to mathematical equations and charts. I feel that if I had the physical text book I would do much better. However, I also feel that the content of the book moves far too quickly to allow new students to comprehend what they are learning. Also, some of the B problems are as different from their A problem counterparts as Night and Day differ. This book is a terrible choice for an "Introductory" class to Accounting. My accounting class-the lowest possible class-uses this book to introduce the concepts...and where I understood at first...I'm now completely lost as though I studied a language before visiting a country only to end up in a country where they speak a completely different language. It's not only the book's fault...but the Teacher plays a huge part in it as well. So don't take my one star review to concentrate solely on the content of the book...because it is mostly meant for the kindle version of it.

DO NOT BUY THE KINDLE VERSION. It's not worth the headaches and frustration.

Very confusing for anyone with no background in accounting..., January 23, 2011

This review is from: Fundamental Financial Accounting Concepts (Hardcover)

I had to buy this book for my accounting class, which I'm taking only to fulfill my GenEd requirements. Instead of delivering information in some sort of logical order, the text is all over the map. It is very difficult to understand the concepts as presented. I would have much preferred that they begin with some general accounting information, such as definitions of the terms used. This book might be helpful to future CPAs but to those of us just trying to learn some basic concepts, this book is just about worthless. I've come across plenty of poorly designed textbooks and this one is at the top of my list. What a waste of money!

This book is usually required. As far as texts go, it's not bad. However, it's about 25 lbs. There is a version that is made to go in a 3 ring binder I would reccomend, cause you can just sling the chapters you need over you shoulder and leave the other 15 pounds at home.
Also, I had to buy an online thing to go with this that the new version comes with. It was , so factor that into your costs if your instructor will make you use Wiley Plus.

Easy to follow yet thorough, September 27, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This review is from: Accounting (Hardcover)

This book makes accounting quite easy to understand. The problems are broken up into confusing categories for each chapter (Summary exercises, brief exercises labeled BE, Exercises, Problem Set A, Problem Set B, etc) but the problems are quite helpful while not requiring too much unnecessary writing. I would highly recommend this book, especially for college courses.

This is a great textbook. However you must be careful when buying it because it does not have the access code for McGraw-Hill's Connect. If you were to buy the access code separately from McGraw-Hill it will cost you around .

It's been 12 years since the first edition, August 5, 2012

This review is from: Financial Accounting: Information for Decisions (Hardcover)

I was browsing around for this book and apparently, the book is in its 6th edition! I have the first international edition which I pick up out of interest during my university (NTU) days while taking a business minor. I chose it because it has lots of examples, illustrations, sections catering to decision (e.g. decision facts/ decision maker / decision analysis) and it was a book that has the home page and that was in year 2000. Index was good and there many short snippets such as summary and key points that makes this easy to digest for a non-business student such as myself.

Going to let this book go as part of my spring cleaning for the Islamic Ramadhan month for the NUS Libraries Book Donation Drive 2012. A pity but I am also running out of real estate in my pack home. Furthermore, I am in the IT industry for past 5 years and the internet has make information readily available than the dot.com era (or bubble burst) then.

Yes, I would recommend the book for it gives a good grounding on the basics of financial accounting and it relates well to how such knowledge can lead to business decisions. Of course, decisions cannot just take in the input of this single point of view but well, this is an academic text in this domain!
