The Need for Leadership in Quality Management Systems

The Need for Leadership in Quality Management Systems

Any process of implementing a Quality Management System should be initiated by management which should, first of all be convinced of the need to undertake the project, because in the event that management does not participate in all steps of implementation the system does not permeate at all levels, but what is worse, people are not convinced and will take it as a fad in which, over time, the management system will become a burden to the company rather than a help. Management can never convince subordinates of something she is not convinced

To achieve certification of Quality Management System should never be the end of the project, the reason for the implementation is to achieve a paradigm shift in all employees, starting with the same management, so as to improve processes continuously to and achieve the satisfaction of all parties concerned.

For the quality management system to grow and strengthen a solid foundation, management must have and exercise leadership on the implementation of the system, recognizing employees as a segment of interested parties to what will be educated on the aspects both technical and human, so they can be convinced of the benefit of the changes that will bring the management system, we must guide them and instruct them so that they adopt as their own vision and so, rather than working for the company to work for viewing. If the staff grows, the company also will grow.

Such is the importance of leadership in the implementation of the system, already considered one of the eight principles of quality management in ISO standards, recognizing that it is the leaders who can achieve unity of purpose and direction of the organization . That is why to implement the quality management system we first begin to work in management leadership.

It is true that achieving leadership is no easy task, one must first have humility and recognize how we really know our behavioral characteristics, interpersonal skills, beliefs, paradigms and technical skills, but above all ethical and moral values with what we have, since the latter are the basis to be determined by the degree of credibility of others on our words. If we have no credibility can be caciques, bosses, owners, employers, but not leaders.

In conclusion we highlight the fact that leaders are followed by conviction, hence the results are longer lasting and always serve as an example to others. Therefore, rather than leaving the material goods they are finite in time and change hands easily, think on the legacy of works, we leave welfare who joined us on the road and the recognition of people a good job.
