Looking to run modern FPS's at around 50 or 60 fps and most RTS's at around 70 fps both on high settings. Wondering if it would be better to upgrade the graphics card or the processor. Thanks for the input!

You should edit this question and take out the empty lines.
To answer the question:

I have a Noctua CPU cooler and its runs beautifully. Not to mention it's got a far better reputation that XtremeGear.

If you don't use Camera Flash cards, then the reader is pointless and a waste of case space.

Get a bigger power supply to 800W in case you want to upgrade video later or crossfire.

Blu-ray burner's are pretty cheap, so you may as well get one instead of DVD burner.

If you've got extra cash, invest in a small size SSD, like 64 GB or 128GB and install your OS (Windows 7) on it. Then you can install some games and leave data like photos, music, files for your HDD. Windows will boot in about 3 seconds on SSD and programs will run great.

Never heard of PMPO speakers. Logitech are usually pretty good and cheap.

Never heard of the mouse. Logitech make great mice and keyboards as well.

Corsair CML8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) Vengeance DDR3 for RAM or 2x2GB kit, whichever u prefer.

If you're after a quiet box, then opt for your big fans like you've done with the 120mm.

Do I need a better graphics card to play games?

Question by Classdrummer44: Do I need a better graphics card to play games?
Bought a Logitech G25 PC steering wheel,
do I need to buy a better graphics card to play games like Test Drive Unlimited on my computer? Seems to be going a bit slow.

Best answer:

Answer by Crimson Vizard
well, in order to answer your question, you should specify your graphics card. I suggest (for low end games such as Halo 1) a Geforce 8600 +, (for middle level games like Titan Quest or Halo 2) a GT 9400 +, (and for high end games such as FEAR 2: Project Origin or Mirror's Edge) a GTX 260 +. Of course, each of these graphics cards should be accompanied by respective processing power and RAM. For low: 2 Ghz + and 1 GB RAM +, for med: 2 Ghz Dual + and 3 GB RAM +, for high, 2.5 Ghz Quad + and 6 GB RAM +. Of course, if you have an unlimited budget, I suggest buying (almost) a computer with these specs: Dual Intel I7 Xeon Motherboards with 128 Gigs of RAM and 64 Ghz of processing power with an Nvidia Quadro FX 5800

What do i need to upgrade to play counterstrike source?

Question by frookagook: What do i need to upgrade to play counterstrike source?
I get around 100-130 FPS in CSS Video Stress

I am currently running wiht these following specs

amd athlon 2500+
512 MB Ram
Geforce 7600 GT 256 MB
PSU - 350 WATT
Asus A7v400 Motherboard

Should i Upgrade my processor or get a new PSU

Best answer:

Answer by Nihil777
Upgrade to at least 1GB RAM and try to see if'n you can't pick up a GeForce 7900 GT or an 8600 GT. However, getting a new video card isn't really advised, as the only thing you'll need to get a higher FPS is more memory...

Edit: Now that I see your processor speed, I'd suggest trying to upgrade to a dual-core. If that's out of your price range, try to pick up one that's at least clocked at 3.00GHZ or above.

Answer by John
Your son is going to hate me, but that computer is something that a 3D modelling company would use. Most games won't even come CLOSE to using that much power.

Buy an Intel Core i5-2600k Sandy Bridge 3.4Ghz. No game uses the multithreading capabilities of an i7.

Buy an ASUS LGA 1155 motherboard-- ASUS motherboards last forever

Drop the sound card. Seriously, who actually uses a sound card anymore?

And last but DEFINITELY not least, drop one of the HD6970s. Most games don't support crossfire, and even those that do won't use up the 2GB of VRAM in one card, let alone two.

I don't know that much about computer building especially motherboards so IDK if there is a way to get basicly that but lower a few things that won't effect anything to much =\

So my question I guess is can you guys customize a computer for me for as close to $ 1000 as you can? or take what I have already and lower some of the things you won't think will effect to much until it reaches like $ 1000?

Thank you very much if anyone can help!

Answer by Alex R
Not good, you have to start overt, here is why:
Q9550 CPU is getting old, with the same price you can get more from new Core i5 and i7 processors.
G41 motherboard is really the low end of all of them
Don't get Apevia cases - low quality, not durable, one went on fire once in my room (I am building PCs too :-)
XION power supplies sux, only Antec, Cooler Master, Corsair and several other should be considered.
Have you checked GTX 460 videocard - it's great according to the benchmarks - will keep price down.

Now forget about Cyber power and get here:
http://centauruscomputers.com
or
http://centaurusPC.com

Honestly - much better quality and value - always bunch of free upgrades and more. Shoot em an email and tell about your dilemma - $ 1000 good gaming PC - at least you would be able to compare to others, provide this cyberpower link too. They will beat it to bloody pulp.

Good luck

AMD Budget PC built Nov 2010
This is my Girlfriends computer I built for her at the end of last year for Christmas. It's a little late now but I figured I'd put this video up for those of you who want to see a new PC video. This was built on a strict budget but as you'll see in the video still has lots of room for upgrading if need be. It's a 3.0GHZ dual core now but the motherboard will handle triple, quad and even six core CPU's for the future. It has four DIMM slots for up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM, PCI-e 2.0 x16 and a decent enough power supply to handle a decent gaming video card and lots of SATA ports for adding extra Hard Drives. The AMD 880G/Radeon HD4250 onboard video is decent enough for anything but modern gaming. It supports dual monitors with VGA, DVI and HDMI with sound so it's great for hooking up to an LCD/Plasma TV or home theater setup. It just goes to show even on a budget build if you spend a few bucks more on the PSU and motherboard you will have something with better expandability. I could have saved or on a cheaper motherboard but it wouldn't have all the features this one has. This motherboard also has all solid state capacitors and a 3-year warranty. Looks like the layout to ibuypower... good choice if that is the case, I am currently on my paladin from them =)

-You may want to take away the thermal grease unless you are a professional, newcomer's do not need that as it is a manual application item.

-Also you may consider 6gb of RAM, can't play high end games without that much these days (with high settings that is)

Kudos to Gigabyte's Global Technical Service who outlined most of the steps, before downloading the essential EZ Smart Response utility from Gigabyte's website. Gigabytes launch of its Z68 motherboards enabled iSRT which allows people to use lower capacity SSD as well as a traditional HD to get complete system wide performance as if they were using a higher capacity SSD. MicroCenter technicians let me watch them do it the old fashioned way. Well, Gigabyte's EZ Smart Response (EZSR) utility makes it simpler (not simple) and faster for DIY. I wasn't lucky enough to get the iSSD bundled, so I purchased the Intel 311 through Amazon. What makes the standard installation complicated, without the EZSR utility, is that the BIOS must be set up in RAID mode before installing the operating system (OS), and when finished the BIOS will be set in IDE mode. The EZSR utility does it all, after you select optimize the BIOS for IDE, and install the OS. This vid shows EZSR at work. www.youtube.com The increase in speed is noticeable after installing, and I found that using the integrated graphics built into the second generation ...

Answer by k3n5h1n
i have these spec:

OS: Window XP Pro 32bit SP3
CPU: Intel dual-core 3.0ghz
Motherboard:Asus P5KPL-AM
Video: Palit Geforce 9800GT 1GB
RAM: 3GB of RAM

i tested it on modern games like CRYSIS,GTA 4,Call Of Duty 4,Red Alert 3,Bioshock, and other modern games with ALL HIGH settings and very fast FPS (Frame Per Second) but my screen resolution is "1024x768" which my monitor won't support higher resolution and i always turn off the "Anti Aliasing" but i upgraded my computer with

OS: Window 7 Ultimate
CPU: Intel core-2 quad 3.0ghz
Motherboard:Asus P5KPL-AM
Video: Geforce 250GTX 1GB
RAM: 4GB of RAM

it gives a little smoother and fast the above spec is the very budget rig but either of these two they are awesome gaming experience ..Goodluck

Answer by Max Price
well, its ok, if were you i would get a better cpu, preferably a 955 or any quadcore. ditch that cpu cooler because you really would not need it and just use the cooler that comes with the cpu. the case is good, the motherboard is adequate and the gpu is fairly good. although try and get a 6870 as the improvement is much better. (i have two 6870;s in crossfire im my rig and even 1 is good enough to play almost every game on full!

What system specifications do modern gamers need?

Question by Mechanicarts: What system specifications do modern gamers need?
I am thinking of upgrading my system. I currently have 512m RAM and 256M Graphics. Now I think of buying another 1G RAM and another 512M Graphics. Are these ok for modern games? +what do I have to look at before buying? Motherboard slots? Energy consumption? What?

Answer by Robert G
Your ? really depends on the type of games you want to play and how well you want them to run. Basically a system with at least 2.6ghz cpu, 2gb ram, 256mb video card can run ANY game that exists today. But most FPS and MMO's cannot be played on there highest setting without hitting somewhere around a 1gb video card and 4gb of ram.

As for what to look for you will need to know the available slots on your mobo (type and how many) also the maximum values u can have for ram, graphics. And finally your power supply's totally wattage. Most off the rack pc's cannot handle substantial upgrading due to lousy power supply's from the factory.

These are just some samples that range from different types of processors and different prices. As you can see, the prices between the two are somewhat similar. You could probably find a quad core processor that costs slightly more than a good dual core processor.

If dual core is really what you want (Dual cores are pretty decent), then you'll have to look in-depth into the ones that interest you. Because not every processor is compatible with every motherboard.

As for the motherboards themselves, I recommend you keep an eye on the maximum memory (RAM) it has. This basically means that some motherboards have more of a capacity to expand their RAM than others do. Some have a maximum of 4 gigs, others have 6, 8, 12, etc. I doubt you need 12 gigs of to play any videogame in existence, but you should also get one that leaves yourself some reasonable room to expand. You should really only need 2 gigs to run WoW, but in the future you might want to try more PC games with higher RAM requirements, so the option to expand will always be there for you. (If, lets say, you get a motherboard with 4 gigs max ram, if you get high end RAM sticks that support 8 gigs in 4 slots, your motherboard will still only be able to use 4gigs.)
